The Stroke Association of Queensland is a committed group of Stroke survivors and carers dedicated to assisting stroke survivors to regain their intellectual, emotional and physical independence after stroke. We also want to increase the public awareness of stroke, its causes and prevention. Stroke can rob you of your ability to walk, take away the use of one of your hands, deprive you of sight, hearing , speech and/or the ability to read or use numbers, but in most cases, a stroke survivor can still think and plan for them self. They just need to regain their self confidence and once more believe in themselves.

butterflyThe Stroke Association is a "not for profit" organisation, supplying Stroke Information kits free of charge to "in need" Queenslanders. Other resources available include DVDs, CDs and books on the various aspects of stroke. We foster Stroke Support Groups and encourage survivors and carers to link in with one of the 32 groups to help regain a sense of community.  We provide talks on stroke to Community & Professional Care Groups. A Peer Support Counseling Service is provided on 1300 753 787 - Talking to someone who's been there helps!

Around 9000 strokes occur in Queensland every year.  Becoming a Stroke Association of Queensland member gives a stroke survivor and carer ongoing support and also enables SAQ to assist other new survivors. We are a registered charity, with all donations of $2 and over tax deductable.
